Aqdas Afzal

Aqdas Afzal is a Research Scholar at the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity and an Assistant Professor of Economics at the National University of Sciences and Technology in Islamabad, Pakistan. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Missouri –Kansas City as a Fulbright Scholar from Pakistan. Dr. Afzal specializes in exploring the relationship between economic growth and fossil fuel energy consumption in net energy importing emerging economies. Previously, apart from working in Pakistan’s development sector, he also taught at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. Dr. Afzal has written on the microfinance sector in Pakistan and he recently analyzed the economic and social impact of persistent rise in global food prices in a series of op-eds, offering solutions for both increased food production and better food distribution. In 2015, Dr. Afzal, while a graduate student, won the prestigious “Student Scholars Prize” in economics. Afzal has also published in Journal of Economic Issues and in the International Journal for Pluralism and Economics Education. Recently, he published a short paper on the economic impact of autonomous vehicles in the Kansas City Business Journal. He also taught at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
